That's Not Cool!
This morning on the Today Show, Matt Lauer reported on the continuing trend of teenage smoking and how it relates to movies. Here are some of the statistics.
About 2050 adolescents in the United States will start smoking everyday.
Half of those who start will do so because of what they saw on the big screen. 340 of them will die early because of smoking related diseases.

Of course we know that Hollywood's goal is to make money, but seriously, at what cost. According to these stats, over 374,000 teens will start smoking this year because of what they saw in movies, and 124,000 will eventually die because of it. Is Hollywood that mindless that it doesn't realize it's killing off it's own clientele?
Of course The Today Show had to show Hollywood's side as well. They showed a clip of an interview with one of the mindless executive drones who stated some political rhetoric about the writers freedoms of speech, yada, yada, yada. Well here is my freedom of speech for them.
Life is fleeting. The love of money is the root of all evil. Smoking kills. Quit killing our kids or else their daddy in heaven is going to tie a big rock around your neck and throw you into the ocean (Matthew 18:6). Now that would make for a good movie.
Other statistics about smoking
Smoking causes 1 in every 5 deaths in the US.
80% of adult smokers started before they were 18 years old.
Approximately 440,000 deaths each year in America are attributed to smoking.
