Getting a Kick Out of Killing

Brian Hooks, 18, and Thomas S. Daugherty, 17, turned themselves in on Sunday for the beating of three homeless men ealry Friday morning. The pre-dawn beatings took place at different locations, one at a church or all places. The Associated Press reported that one of the beatings was actually caught on video and shows two men chasing and beating one homeless man, who had been sleeping on a bench shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday near Florida Atlantic University, with what appear to be baseball bats.

"It looked like they were going for the head," said Fort Lauderdale police detective Katherine Collins.

"It's senseless. If you look at these kids, it was almost like it was fun and games for them," said Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Scott Russell. "It looked like they were laughing and finding great joy in what they were doing, which made it more horrific."

If you remember, four teenagers pleaded guilty last month to fatally beating a 53-year-old homeless man in Daytona Beach in May. They will be sentenced Feb. 21. A fifth teen still faces still faces an aggravated battery charge and is free on $50,000 bail.

What is going through the heads of these teenagers? They are seemingly getting a kick out of killing. I would love to talk to these teens and discover what motivated them to do such a thing. Was it drugs, TV, video games, a dare or initiation?

What's next for this generation? What are you doing about it? Talk to your friends about Jesus before it's too late.
