Get Ready, Get Set, GO!

It's been a long three months, but our patience and dependence on God has worked out for our good. God has opened a door for our family to take a position at First Assembly of God in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Pastor Ken Meyer and I immediately hit it off as we met with the executive board almost two weeks ago. It seems as if we are a perfect match for this church.

I also had an opportunity to preach in the youth service that Wednesday night in their awesome gym/auditorium. As you can see from the pictures, it's huge! There were about 115 students there that night (50 or so of them are bused in from the city) plus 35 adults (some youth leaders, and others that were curious parents and church leaders wanting to see their potential new Youth Pastor). The service went great! The contemporary worship was led by one of the youth leaders, Ryan, who is a 7th grade history teacher. He was assisted by a kickin' band with three electric and one acustic guitar, base guitar, drummer, and two back-up singers. The rest of the youth leaders vary in age from college students to senior adults. It's a great mix of people who are passionate about the young people of their community.

The church also has a deep pentecostal heritage beginning in 1909, just a few years before the Assemblies of God was formed. They are a bit more traditional than our previous church but they are moving forward with Godly direction and the Spirit's timing.

They have two Sunday morning services, a Sunday evening service, and a Wednesday family night complete with Royal Rangers, Missionettes, Youth Ministry, and an adult Bible study.

In addition to being the Youth Pastor, I will also be the sports director. Their beautiful gym accomodates both basketball and vollyball leagues during the week. They also are involved in the local church softball league (season champs two years running) and a city golf league. There are also potential plans for a soccer league. They already have well equiped people leading the various sports leagues, I would just need to manage schedules, communications, etc. Of course I will also be actively involved playing as well. Who knows, maybe we'll add bowling. :)

The unfortunate news for my St. Joseph, MO. freinds is that we are moving no later than Thursday - yes that's in 4 days! If you would like to help us pack our truck on Wednesday, just give us a call. We have a lead on a house to buy and one to rent, so we are still praying about those options. We don't want to move twice, but with everything happening so quick, we may have to.
