Blood, Sweat and Tears

Well, I may not have seen any blood Wednesday night at our Sports Tournament Night, but there was definately buckets of sweat and tears. Our night was packed full of competition with basketball, volleyball and pool. It was a great night of clean fun and building relationships.

The Priests dominated the volleyball court effortlessly defeating every opponent on
their way to the finals. The Romans hung in there for a while during the championship game, but the Priests were victoriuos. Congrats to Tim, Chris, Jenna, Matt, and Justin.

On the basketball court the competition was fierce. Josh DeSalvo and Jay Moore went head to head in the foul shooting contest taki
ng it to a tripple overtime. Josh came out victorious by a single shot. The 3 point contest wasn't much of a contest with only 2 competitors making more than one shot. Jordan Sager was the winner making 3 of 5 shots and Shane Patrick took second by making 2 of 5. The Speed drill was a different story. Seven of the eight competetors ended in double figures but it was Nick Sager who shot the lights out and ended his 60 seconds with 33 points.

The Prophets and the Angels met in the finals of the 3-on-3 baskeyball tournament. It was the second time they faced eachother that night and it came down to the final second. The Prophet walked away with the "W" but their night wasn't over. The Prophets, led by the Price boys (not related), were challenged by a new team lead by the Smith brothers. It was an exciting game to watch but unfortunatley for the Prophets, the Smiths were to much for them.

The final game of the night was strictly busin
ess for the Leadership Team. Pastor Roger (that's me), Tim, Matt, Ryan, TJ, and Chris challenged the top students to a showdown on the hardwood (ok, so it's carpet). The student team consisted of the top two 3-on-3 teams plus a few extras. Jeremy Price lead the students in the first half but they feel behind by six before their second squad came in.

Pastor Roger continued to impress the crowd (does that sound biased) with a flury of dazling shots and assists, not to mention a block and steal on Chris Smith - who of course cried foul on both - just kidding, dude. Ryan tried to shoot the lights out but never quite got into rythem (which is hard to do when you're shooting from half court). Tim Koncsol and Chris Lehberger were scraping up rebonds and put them back in for points while TJ and Matt were banging students around on defense.

The student team did come back in a big way with an imp
ressive shooting display late in the game. They tied it at 17 and then went back and forth to 19. But the leaders prevailed - of course - dispite the size disadvanatage (our tallest guy was 5'10"). Guess who made the winning shot?
