Returning to the Altar
Stop! Grab your Bible or click on the link and read Hebrews 13:10-16. If you don't read it, this wont make sence to you.
Have you read it? Really? Ok, here we go.
In the Hebrew language, "altar" means a place of slaughter or sacrifice. The altar was a place were only the High Priests would carry out the spiritual rituals of offering up some type of sacrifice to God as a form of worship. NOW, beacuse of Christ's ultimate sacrifice of death on the cross, we can come to an altar of worship and offer "the fruit of lips that confess His name."
Last Wednesday night I preached this message with FIVE elements to our altar of worship:
1.) A Place of Promise - of everylasting love and a hopeful future
2.) A Place of Sacrifice - where God our Father gave His one and only Son for you and me and now we sacrifice by how we live to please Him and die to keep Him first in our lives.
3.) A Place of Witness - where Jesus himself stands before God as our advocate and where we stand humbly to show the world their need for Him.
4.) A Place of Refuge - where we can run to for rest, strength and protection.
5.) A Place for the Supernatural - where God can bring down fire from heaven and perform miraculous signs and wonders.
We have altar - it's the cross of Jesus Christ where he was slaughtered for you and me. This is the altar we must come to and give our lives. This is an altar where we must worship the Lord our God. This is the altar where lives will be restored, renewed and refreshed.
Come to the altar and offer to Gos the FRUIT of lips that confess His name. Commit to him you LIFE and your WORSHIP everyday.
