Dig In: I'm Yours Forever

Two weeks ago in our student ministries service, Chrissy showed us a video clip from the Count of Monte Cristo where Edmond Dantes spared Jacapo’s life and Jacapo greatfully responded “I’m your man forever!”

It was a reminder of how Jesus stepped in and spared our life when we deserved death. He died in our place and now our response needs to be as Jacapo’s “I’m your forever.”

Listen to these words of Jesus.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." Matthew 16:24-25

To say "I'm yours forever" to Jesus means to be willing to lose everything and do anything to follow Christ. When we sign up to be a Christian it's similar to signing up for one of the branches of the armed services. We are saying that we are willing to deny ourself and give someone else control of our lives. We are claiming that we are ready to give up our dreams and desires to live ONLY for Jesus.

That night we also had our students nail prayers and committments to the cross that we had on display at the front of the room. Here are a few of their responses.

"That I would be able to show you my love and give up all my sin to take my journey beside you."

"Forgive me! Forgive me for all I have done."

"Dear Lord, I'm sorry for everything. Please forive me and have mercy on my soul. I love you with everything I have. I will worship you my God and my King."

"Your perfect beauty bled to death for my unworthy soul.
I need not understand your reasons, for knowing your love is all I need.
I pray death to myself and give my stains to you.
Wash me!
I'm yours forever!"
