The Incredible Edible Egg 2
1. There is one God
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” (Deut. 6:4)
The Israelites lived in a day where idolatry and polytheism was rampant. Many people believed in multiple gods. This passage was daily declaration of the Jews called the “Shema”. The believed in and served the ONE True God. This is the basis of our faith.
2. The Father is God
"Let us make man” (Genesis 1:26); “Man is become as one of us” (Genesis 3:22)
God the Father is our Creator. He is the maker of the universe and the giver of all life.
And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
3. The Son is God
“I and the Father are one.” (John 10:30)
“No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.” (John 1:18)
God the Son (Jesus Christ) is our Savior. He became a man to show the world what God is like. He paid the penalty for our sin and has provided everlasting life to anyone who will receive Him.
- Jesus is the Son of God (John 3:16)
- Jesus is God (John 1:1-2, …the Word was God)
4. The Holy Spirit is God
"For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." (1 Cor. 2:11)
God the Holy Spirit is our Helper. He is always with us because He is in each person who has received Jesus Christ as Savior. He helps us receive God's forgiveness and obey Him in our daily lives.
"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth…But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:15-17, 26)

5. Father, Son and Holy Spirit are distinct individuals
Each member of the Trinity is working in the world and in our lives. Though God the Father is our Creator, the Bible teaches that Jesus and the Holy Spirit also had a part in creation. Jesus, God's Son, is our Savior, but the Father and the Holy Spirit also are involved in the work of salvation. The Father and Son work in our lives to help us as the Holy Spirit does. Each member of the Trinity is an individual Person, but they think and act together and can't be separated.
Matthew 3:16-17
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
6. Therefore, there are three Persons in the one Godhead.
That’s our conclusion from the facts given to us in his Word. “The Lord our God, the Lord is One.” God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, are one in nature and essence, but separate in personality and function. They work together to in perfect unity.
Application:
So how can we apply the Trinity to our lives? I feel that by knowing the Godhead and their distinct function and unity, we can see our own purpose as well.
Jesus was asked of all the commandments, which is the most important? His response was to quote the “Shema”.
"The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:29-31)
The Trinity gives us a picture of love and unity. That is the very essence of our God.
If we love God, we will experience His love within and will express that love to others.
We do not live by rules but by relationships, a loving relationship to God that enables us to have a loving relationship with others. (Wiersbe)
It’s all about loving God and loving people…knowing Him and making Him known.
