Spiritual Eating Disoders

Have you ever heard somebody talk about something and you sit back and say, "I've thought about it that way before"? Tonight was one of those nights for me.

Tonight was the first night of the PennDel District Youth Convention in Hershey, PA. The Michael Gungor Band led us in an awesome time of worship and Shawn Hennessy shared a unique perspective about eating disorders.

1. Anorexia: individuals who starve themselves inorder to be skinny

2. Bulimia: indivuals who want to be skinny but lack the will power to starve themselves so they eat, feel guilty, and then force themselves to thow up.

3. Obesity: people who love to eat and hate to exercise
(Yes, I understad that these are not the exact medical deffinitions of these conditions.)
Shawn related these physical eating disorders to that of spiritual eating disorders.

1. Spiritual Anorexia: individuals who can't remember the last time they fed themselves spiritually. They are starving their spirit's to death.

2. Spiritual Bulimia: individuals who love God but love sin more. The come to church and feel guilty, so they run to the altar and puke up thier sin. It becomes an every week thing because they are spiritually shallow.

3. Spiritual Obesity: individuals who love God and hate sin BUT they also hate to exercise. They haven't learned the principle from scripture that says, "Faith without works is DEAD."

Do you suffer from a spiritual eating disorder?

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2
