WAYS WE PRAISE
Psalm 98:1-6
1 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
2 The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn—shout for joy before the LORD, the King.
1. We praise by SINGING
- The Psalmist uses the word “sing” over 20x to describe praise and worship.
- That verse we just read said “Sing unto the Lord a new Song.”
2. We praise just with our WORDS
Psalm 145:21
My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever.
- Has God done anything good for you lately?
- When is the last time you told anyone?
3. We praise by SHOUTING
Ps 98:4 we read, “Shout for joy to the Lord”
- We shout at ball games, concerts…
- It shows that we’re excited about being with God, we’re excited about being in his presence, we’re excited about who He is and what He has done!
4. We praise by RAISING our hands
Psalm 63:4
I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
- It’s an act of surrender
- We yield…my life is yours
5. We praise by CLAPPING our hands
Psalms 47:1
Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy.
- Worship is a celebration
- We applaud God
6. We praise by playing INSTRUMENTS
Psalm 98:5
make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing
- This is a way that we offer our talents to God
- The worship is expressing praise and honor by playing their instruments for His glory and they help lead us into a time of intimacy in His presence.
7. We praise by DANCING
Psalm 149:3
Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp.
Psalm 150:4
praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute,
- It needs to be done in reverence and modesty
- Where the Spirit of the Lord, there is freedom.
8. We praise by KNEEING
2 Chronicles 20:18
Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the LORD.
- This was right before a huge battle and prophecy over Israel.
9. We praise with OUR LIFE
Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
- In view of WHO God is and WHAT He has done, worship Him by everything you say and do!
- In WORD and DEED we honor God
- The way you treat others…
- The activities your in…sports, band, etc.
- They are platforms of opportunity to honor God
* The HEART of the matter is that Worship is a matter of the HEART.
