Class Is In Session

For many, today is the first day of school. I know that it's not music to your ears (unless you're a parent), but hey, you need an education. Let me encourage you with these four things as you begin another year of high school.

1. Friends – chose them wisely

A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. (Proverbs 12:26)

David & Jonathan were a great example of a good positive freindship. Read 1 Samuel 23:16-18 and see how Jonathan encouraged David when his father was tracking him down to kill him.

Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are another group of guys that knew what quality friendship was all about. Check out Daniel 2:49; 3:12-30.

A. Friends that will go through the fire with you.
12My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command. (John 15:12-14)

B. Friends that are also friends with God
You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4)

2. Fellowship
– Stay involved in the programs provided by the church
Have you ever heard the saying "If the devil can’t make you bad, he’ll make you busy"? It's so true. He may not be able to get you to drink or sleep around, but often times he is successful at distracting us with overloaded schedules. We get so tied up in sports, the school band, clubs, or working a ton of hours, that we make going to church and youth group events the last option.

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:25)

The church works hard at planning and strategizing services and events are with you in mind. We have a sports ministry with golf, volleyball, basketball, and softball. We have various children's minstries and events like the Hayride Sept. 14th, and the Ranger camp out Sept. 21st-23rd

Revolution Student Ministries gathers on Wednesday nights
- Annex Cafe and gym open @ 6:00pm
- worship, games, the word are purposely planned
- finishing our series on The Perfect Storm (Preventing an Epidemic)
- September we are targeting our schools and teaching about evangelism
- See You At The Pole, September 26th
- Reality Check, city youth rally, Sept. 26th – your life, your school, your destiny
- Activities: snack & yak, concerts, airsoft battles, bowling, fundraisers, YA, convention, camp, and a ton more!

3. Faith – Live it, share it!
James 2:26 “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

Your school is your mission field. The public schools are actually the largest mission field in America. God has placed you in your school to represent Him. It is your responsibility to share your faith with those who don't have any.

4. Family – Recharging station!
Our family goes through batteries like candy. Eventually I got smart and invested in rechargeable batteries. They only cost a couple more bucks but you can use them over and over again.

Parents, our home need to be a recharging stations – a safe haven, a place of rest and encouragement - a place where our kids can recharge and be used by God over and over and over.

Here are a few suggestions of how you can recharge them.
- Pray for them! Lay your hands on them and let them hear you pray blessing and protection over their life. This will not only show them how much you love them, but it will teach them how to pray.
- Speak words of affirmation. Make an intentional attempt to find possitive attributes and characteristics in your student's live that you affirm and encourage. Let them know how proud you are of their accomplishments.
- Challenge them to do their best! As you pray for them to achieve and as you affirm thier abilities, challenging them to do their best in all areas of life becomes easier. Remember, they don't have to be the best. They simply have to work at doing their best. Requiring more will only frustrate both you and your student.
