Faking It!

Gucci, Channel, Louis Vuitton, and Rolex are all designer products that are frequently copied and sold as “knock-offs” or fakes. To the naked eye there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of difference between the real thing and the fake. The real difference is the quality of the materials used and the craftsmanship with which it is made…oh, and of course the price.

Chrissy was actually given a knock-off Louis Vuitton purse recently by one of her friends. Her friend told her that it was purchased in New York from a street vender for about $200. The actual “real” purse lists for $1,350.00! The differences in the two purses are so minor that you would really have to look closely to distinguish the two apart.

Two days ago the AP released a story about a mafia-based ring of counterfeiters who built fake Ferraris. Knock-off Ferraris? You have got to be kidding. They were building fake Ferrari Modena 360s and selling them for about $30K. (The value of a REAL Modena 360 is about $150K!)

I have nothing against knock-offs. I do, however, have a hard time with people who are knock-offs. You know the type. They come to church, say the right things, and have the look, but they’re faking it. You can’t really tell by just looking at them, but as God’s Word tells us, “you’ll know them by their fruit.”

“Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:19-10).

My challenge to you - be the real deal. Bear fruit. Knock-offs are going to be cut off from the Kingdom of God (John 15:1-8).
