Whiplash

As you know, a few weeks ago we had an awesome concert with Petra, Farewell June and Bread of Stone. I was particularly found of Farewell June with their mix of folk, jazz and rock styles. Of course their message was uncompromising as well. I enjoyed talking with Becky Woods (backup vocals and wife of leader Jonas) about their travels and experiences on the road. At one point I traded her a book from our student ministries bookstore for a CD that I later had autographed by the entire band.

As I was reading the inside of the CD jacket I came across something that jumped off the page and described exactly what we as a ministry are trying to accomplish as well. Farewell June is on the Whiplash Records label and they print their vision statement on all the CDs of the bands they cover. Here is the vision of Whiplash Records.

We're crazy about engaging the world with a musical language that leaves it mark. We don't want you to be the same after listening to this record. This is the real thing. It's not enough for us to be a part of the Christian sub-culture. In everything we do, from the was we treat the anointed artists we work with to the way we've been praying for YOU we're different. So if your heart needs healing, if your looking for spiritual restoration or a renewing breath of life, if you've become desperate for revival then it's time for a sudden and immediate change of direction.
