As we have discussed before, the theme verse for the true revolutionary is from John 3:30, "He must become greater, I must become less." A revolution isn't something you join. It's a way of life. It's who you are. We live out this revolution by feeding seven key passions. My next seven entries will highlight these passions. (The seven passions are spelled out in George Barna's book, Revolution.)
Acts 2:42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Everyday they continued to meet together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
The first of the seven passions of a revolutionary is Intimate Worship. Worship means to be in awe, express gratitude, acknowlege power, admire, to give attention and devotion, and to display affection openly.
We have a tendency to worship many things in life - money, sports stars, celebrities, power, and success. We are willing to go through great lengths to obtain (or at least get close to) these things but to what end? Only the worship of God is neccessary and fulfilling. Just ask Martha (Luke 10:38-42).
There are many things that can be considered worship, so let list a few.
- Singing - Playing musical instruments - Thanksgiving - Giving of Tithes & Offering - Bible reading and study - Prayer - Coming to church.
Ephessians 5:19 "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord."
Colossians 3:16 "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
James 5:13 "Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise."
All of these various forms of worship have one thing in common - they keep us connected to God. How have you connected with Him today?
