Brian Bononi's Point of View
During the night, uneasy and unable to sleep I quietly exited the comfort of my bed and went to my computer. There I logged on and typed in one of the many sources of new I use. As the headlines popped up “McCaskill outs Talent in Tight Senate Race”, my heart began to sink. I quickly checked certain amendments on the ballot in the state of Missouri. The more and more I read, the more hope I was losing. When the dust settled at 2:30am I was staring at a computer screen, and came to my final decision. America has taken one more step down the immoral and unethical ladder, and we are blind to the fact that we are doing it.
In the state of Missouri, we passed a bill that will allow young women to settle aborted babies to labs, so that in return labs can take an embryo, or as I prefer to call them, babies and do medical experiments that will not yield or produce anything that is sustainable. For if the truth was out there, people would realize that embryonic stem cells do not give the necessary parts for research. Scientist say, “adult” stem cells is the only good source, and those come from fully developed babies, and adults. I describe it this way, if you are buying a rug, a person could bring you samples of threads, but that does not yield a good example of the rug, you must wait until the rug is whole and complete in order to see what uses the rug will have. What we have created is an opportunity for under privileged, drug addicts, street walkers, etc to create another source of income. This is the true definition blood money in my mind.
Sticking with the wonderful state of Missouri, or maybe Misery I will start to call it, we decided that minimum wage was not high enough, so we will raise it effective January 1, 2007. Are people that blind to what the results of this will be? Is everyone prepared to pay more, everywhere? I have heard the complaint, “How am I supposed to raise a family on minimum wage?” Your not, it’s that simple. Minimum wage is for 15, 16, 17, and yes, even some 18 year olds, who are working part time at their first jobs, doing shifts at the local hamburger joint. “How can I pay for my cell phone? – Random 17 year old, my response to that is once again, your not! Where have we decided that we deserve every perk in life, and it’s up to the government to get it for me? If that’s the case, I would like for my wife to not work, so we can have kids and her stay at home, I am pretty sure my sister feels the same way, but how can we pay our home mortgages, health insurance? We can’t, so we have to do whatever is possible to make things work. This means you either pick up second jobs, work from home, or work more hours if you are hourly. That is how you “can afford your cell phone” That is the true American way, work for your goods, and take appreciation in what you have and what you do. Be proud, it’s ok.
As I looked around the country and heard the winning seats cheer, “America has spoken and want’s a change” I became confused and quite nervous. A change from what; let’s take a look at our current situation. Our stock market is at an all time high, unemployment rate is at all time lows, we are fighting terrorism and winning, tax breaks have been written to help end the marriage penalty tax, the death tax is trying to be removed. So in the words of these winners, those are all bad things then, since “we want change” That’s why I have become nervous, because I have been taught in my young years of growing up that those are ALL good indicators of things going good. So the winners plan on changing all of these things. Is it time for me to place my money under my mattress, so I can try to keep as much as possible?
Many states had the opportunity to define lines on gay marriage, going along with the immoral decisions that our country voted on this last Tuesday, at time of writing, I hadn’t found that had passed to ban gay marriage. Our countries ability to sink into immoral decay has overwhelmed me and brought me to the point of sickness in my stomach. I sat there wondering, why this has happened, what good can one derive from it. Sorry, I have no answer for that one; no good can come from it. I’m not sure what decade it was a popular saying, 60’s or 70’s but “God is Dead” was shouted from street corners, I have found myself revisiting that saying, but able to see where it is wrong, I have changed it just a little, “America is dead to God” for we have turned our back on our creator one too many times and we have finally lost the blessing that he bestowed upon this great country. See what decades earlier people thought was God being dead, was just their inability to hear him closing the door on us, it wasn’t him to listening to us, it was us not listening to him. Many years later, as we sit in shambles a country torn apart by unethical politicians and immoral amendments, we should be pounding on God’s door for him to hear our cries, but instead we are trying to drive God farther and farther from the foundation of our daily lives. “In God we Trust”, do we really? “One nation under God” I am a supported of both of these sayings, but today, these feel more like blasphemy that truth. How far do we have to go, before we wake up and realize what we have done?
So, here I am 26, nervous and frightened for my families’ future. Will God continue to bless my family? Yes, because we still rely on him everyday, and in every aspect of our life. Does that help the fact that I am frightened? Yes, because as long as we are good stewards of what he provides us with, he will help in times of struggle. This does not mean he will bless and protect our country, our country needs to be good stewards of what God has provided for us, and we are no longer doing that.
The winners all said they want more accountability in politics, ok, let’s give them that. No one is safe, Republican, Democrat, or Independent, they are all being watched, lets hold them all accountable. They are elected officials, which means in the end we have the final say. No more passes for any of them.
My last note, if you are ever caught staring at the ballot and you don’t like either of the candidate’s, instead of “voting for the lesser of two evils” lets try something new, either write in, (taking this from a classic movie) NONE OF THE ABOVE, or if you don’t want to do that, write my name, you know how I feel on things, you just read my whole email.
Thank You,
Brian Bononi
