War! What Is It Good For? P4

2. David's Demise (11:2-27)
"One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing… Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her" (11:2-4).

Because David wasn't on the battlefield fighting, he became easy prey for his enemy -the enemy of his flesh.

"But each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death" (James 1:14-15).

David neglected the war and now his flesh got the best of him.
He Looked - the lust of the eyes
He touched - the lust of the flesh, he committed adultery
He took - the pride of life, he had her husband killed

David put himself in the middle of temptation by not being on the battlefield. He put himself in the line of fire. When you're not on the battlefield, you don't have your armor on. Your guard in down and you feel secure.

War keeps us on our toes. It keeps us prepared, alert, ready and equipped.

Due to the events of 9/11, we have never been more alert and prepared for war and terrorist attack than we are now. War brings that sense of urgency and awakens us to what we've taken for granted.
