War! What Is It Good For? P5

3. David's Decision (12:1-25)
David was confronted with his situation.

A) David Responded to the Word from God.
- Nathan came with a "hypothetical situation"
- You are that Man!
- He confessed his sin.

Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD" (2 Samuel 12:13).

B) David Reaped what he had sown
- Once Nathan left, the boy got sick
- David fasted and prayed
- The boy died

C) David Repented
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise" (Psalm 51:10-17).

D) David was Restored
God gave them another son, Jedidiah (v24-25)

With war come casualties. Unfortunately, sometimes those casualties are innocent.
David's son died because of David's mistakes.

David may have neglected the war and he fell prey to temptation but God didn't let it end there. He gave David a chance to repent. God offered grace and David readily accepted it. The son born to his sin may have died, but God restored him with another son, Jedidiah.

- Perhaps you need to respond to the word of the Lord today.
- Do you need to repent of sin?
