I've Fallen & I Can't Get Up

Genesis 1:26 tells us “Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness'.”

The first man, Adam, was created perfect – in God’s likeness. However, man was created with a free will, a freedom to choose on his own how to live.

As we all know the story, Eve came on the scene and ruined everything! LOL

God created Eve from one of Adam’s ribs and together they lived in the Garden of Eden. They were in perfect harmony. God loved them and hung out with them. He provided for their every need.

God only gave them one rule to live by. “you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die” Gen. 2:17).

How cool would it be if we today only had ONE rule to live by?

Think about Adam’s situation here for a minute. He was created perfect in the image of God his creator. He was placed in this incredible garden with all kinds of trees – beautiful and good for food, an incredible river and all the animals. Then God creates a hot naked babe for him. He has it all…as long as he lives by that one rule – don’t eat from that one tree – the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Of course we know that Adam and Eve’s fairytale story came to an unfortunate and sudden end. A serpent, the Devil, came along and put doubt in Eve’s heart. He convinced her to compromise God’s one rule in attempts to benefit herself. She then convinced Adam to do the same.

That very event affects you and I today, thousands of years later. Because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, SIN entered the world. Once that sin was committed, all of mankind was condemned to death – both physically and spiritually.

- Sin came from ONE man’s mistake
- Death, both physical & spiritual, comes from sin
- Death comes to ALL men
- ALL have sinned

Well that sucks! It doesn’t seem fair does it?
Well, the devil doesn’t play fair.

We can’t blame God. God had given them everything. He even warned them of what would happen if they ate of that fruit.

Mankind by willful choice ignored God’s instructions…choosing to engage what he knew was wrong and harmful.

There is something that we can blame God for – Salvation - ONE man DIED so that ALL men could live.
