Jesus Picks Me Up
Romans 5:12-19 (NLT)
12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. 15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. 16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
The fact of the matter is, we may have fallen down – sinned – but we don’t have to stay down and die in our sin. God offers us a way out! He let someone else pay the price of Adam’s mistake and OURS. The price was death and the person was Jesus, His only Son.
Think about that. Here is God. He creates the guy in His image and likeness. Gives him everything a man could want, freedom, food, and hot babe, and ONE rule to live by. Adam blows it big time and is condemned to die physically and spiritually. But God loves Adam, his creation, mankind, so much, that He gives his Son to die in Adam’s place – in our place. Salvation!
Salvation is deliverance from spiritual death and enslavement by sin. God provides salvation for everyone and it’s as easy to receive as knowing your ABCs.
A. Admit you are a sinner
“There is no one righteous, not even one…for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:10, 23)
Ask God’s forgiveness & repent
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
B. Believe in Jesus
“For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that anyone who BELIEVES in Him will not die, but have evternal life" (John 3:16)
Become a Child of God by Receiving Christ
“To all who received him, to those who BELIEVED in His name, He gave the right to become CHILDREN of God.” (John :12)
C. Confess that Jesus is your Lord
“If you CONFESS with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and BELIEVE in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
Evidence of Salvation
- The inner evidence of salvation is the direct witness of the Holy Spirit.
“For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” Romans 8:16
- The outward evidence, visible to others, is living a life totally committed and pleasing to God.
“Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” (Eph 4:24)
“And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God” (Titus 2:12)
Salvation restores our relationship with God as if we’re back in the garden of Eden.
Do you need Jesus to pick you up and restore that relationship between you and God? What are you waiting for?
