Why would God use “speaking in tongues” as the evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit?
I like Tim Enloe’s answer to that question.
“The baptism is all about God directing our speech in new and powerful ways so we could become ministering witnesses, as Acts 1:8 declares.” (Want More?, p51)
James 3:7-8
7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
God wants to speak through us. Speaking in tongues is a sign that we have abandoned our control and let Him tame our tongue the supernatural so that He can empower to speak His Word in the natural.
“We don’t need the Baptism so we can speak in tongues; we need the Baptism so we can talk to lost people.” (Tim Enloe, Pentecostal Evangel, 5/27/07, p25)
