Stay the Course

"Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You've heard, of course, of Job's staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That's because God cares, cares right down to the last detail." (James 5:10-11 TM)

Just as Ferdinand Magellen and Christopher Columbus navigated their way across oceans to explore and discover new worlds, so have the prophets, Job, the disciples, missionaries like Mark Buntain, and modern day martyrs like Cassie Burnall and Rachel Scott charted a course through stormy waters to encourage us to stay the course.

How did they stay the course?

1. They never quit! Patience in times of suffering is a testimony to those around us.

2. They trusted God! "The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you"

3. They gave everything to be a witness! "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot loose."

"Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such a persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life" (James 1:12 TM)
